Day in the life: Saskia Spahn
Experience Report |

August 4, 2025

Hi, I'm Saskia and I'm a working student supporting the Employer Branding & University Relations team at Fresenius. Our team is responsible for Fresenius' internal and external employer image and the associated positioning as an attractive employer among relevant target groups. I've been part of the team for two years now. I started as an intern between my bachelor's and master's degrees before being taken on as a working student at the beginning of my master's degree. One thing I can reveal in advance: At Fresenius, and especially within my team, you can expect a wide range of tasks with many exciting projects. Join me for a day at our Fresenius headquarters in Bad Homburg and gain an insight into my working day.

9:00 a.m. - Start of the day

I start up my laptop, open Teams, and check my email inbox. I always like to use the first few minutes of my working day to roughly structure my day: What tasks do I want to tackle today? Have there been any updates on the individual topics in the meantime? What meetings are scheduled for today? I often work through the first few emails, especially if they can be answered quickly, so that I can then focus on my tasks.

09:30 a.m. - Team Meeting

Next up is our team meeting. Once a week, we meet as a team and discuss the most important issues, such as updates on current projects within the department and across the company, or we exchange ideas on specific topics. It's always really exciting to hear what my colleagues are currently working on and what's going on outside our team.

10:30 a.m. - Checking the career mailbox

After our team meeting, I manage our general career email inbox (career@fresenius.com). Applicants and others interested in our company can contact us here with job and career-related questions. I either answer inquiries myself or forward them to the appropriate contact person to ensure a positive candidate experience.

11:30 a.m. - Lunch Time

After I have finished dealing with all the emails, it's usually time for our team lunch. We like to eat at one of the company restaurants on the Bad Homburg campus. The menu is very varied, with a wide range of dishes to choose from - there's truly something for everyone. When the weather is nice, we enjoy eating outside in the sunshine - the food tastes even better that way 😉

12:30 p.m. - Back to business

After lunch, it's time for the next task. Today, it has to do with our international brand advocacy program for employees. The Frembassador community assists us with external communications and HR marketing by providing specialist lectures at universities and contributing to social media content. The Frembassador world is vast, and the topics we cover as a team are diverse. This includes responding to community inquiries, updating the relevant intranet page, coordinating Frembassador training courses, and preparing communication content for social media and other channels.

2:00 p.m. - WID Talk

In addition to the team meeting, we have a weekly WID Talk for working students, interns and dual students currently working in the team. During this meeting, we exchange ideas. In addition to discussing the technical topics we are currently working on together, we always leave a little time for topics outside of work. When the WID Talk isn't online, we like to meet at the Barista Bar. With delicious coffee and snacks, we can work more productively and start the afternoon with renewed energy.

2:30 p.m. - Update with my supervisor

After that, I have my weekly update meeting with my supervisor, Jörg. We discuss the status of our joint projects and share ideas about new topics. This allows us to stay up to date and plan the to-do list for the following days. I am generally given a lot of responsibility for my tasks and can always contribute my ideas. This is a particularly valuable aspect for me as a working student.

3:00 p.m. - Stories

For the rest of the day, I work on the Stories section of our career website. I am jointly responsible for creating content, such as our “What's Your Job” interviews. I coordinate and conduct the interviews, organize photo shoots, and enter articles into our content management system before publication. Being involved in this entire process is really exciting, especially because it gives me insight into the wide variety of areas at Fresenius.

5:15 p.m. - End of business

It's a wrap. But before closing my laptop, I take one last look at my to-do list and calendar for the next day. That way, I have a rough idea of what's coming up. Then, I say, “Time to call it a day and bye-bye office!”
