For our clinic we are looking for a Chief Physician for Gastroenterology (m/f/d) as of 01.01.2026.

In succession to the current holder of the position, Prof. Dr. med. Detlev Ameis, who is retiring from active working life after 13 years of work in our hospital, we are looking for a Chief Physician (m/f/d) for gastroenterology.

The Clinic for Gastroenterology treats about 2600 inpatients annually on a ward with 35 beds. The range of services includes the entire diagnosis and therapy of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, hepatology, bile ducts and pancreas as well as the treatment of patients with chronic inflammatory bowel diseases and reflux diseases, including cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, colon, pancreas and liver. Inpatient drug tumor therapy is also part of the spectrum of services provided. In gastroenterological oncology, we are a partner clinic of the supra-regional Helios Cluster Lower Saxony-East.

The Endoscopy functional unit offers the complete gastroenterological spectrum with gastroscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP, endosonography of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract with the corresponding endoscopic interventions. Approximately 4,000 endoscopic examinations are carried out annually as well as approx. 2,700 examinations in sonography. We carry out diagnostics and therapy with state-of-the-art technical equipment at four fully equipped video endoscopy workstations and one ultrasound workstation.

• An active and well-established department of gastroenterology in the district of Helmstedt with 2,600 inpatients and 4,000 endoscopic examinations per year
• Four senior physicians, including two specialists in internal medicine with a focus on gastroenterology and two specialists in internal medicine in further training in gastroenterology
• an endoscopy nursing team with eight full-time staff and three preparation staff
• a modern functional department with four fully equipped examination rooms and an ultrasonography room

• As a chief physician (m/f/d), you are team-oriented, motivate and inspire employees and are willing to take on on-call services
• You will maintain a close professional exchange with other departments of our hospital with the aim of achieving the best possible result for our patients and will be responsible for the professional and organizational management and leadership as well as the continuous development of the department
• You will ensure the continuous development of the clinic under structural, organizational and strategic aspects together with the clinic management
• You are a specialist (m/f/d) in internal medicine and gastroenterology with in-depth knowledge and have mastered the common endoscopic techniques
• You have a high level of social competence and maintain a respectful and empathetic relationship with colleagues, employees, patients and their relatives as well as business management thinking and acting are a matter of course for you
• You enjoy working with other professional groups as well as colleagues from other disciplines and the further development and optimization of processes
• As a leader with the courage to innovate and convincing professional and personal qualities, you know how to motivate with a goal-oriented leadership style
