Configuration Analyst

Role Purpose

The Configuration Analyst supports the operation and integrity of the CMDB by executing data management tasks, monitoring data quality, resolving CI exceptions, and ensuring accurate representation of IT assets and services. This role is key in maintaining the value and reliability of configuration data used across IT processes such as Incident, Change, and Problem Management.

Key Responsibilities

• CI Data Management

  • Execute assigned CMDB data management tasks

  • Supervise completion of CMDB tasks across other teams

  • Create, update, or retire Configuration Items (CIs) according to governance rules.

  • Perform regular audits to ensure completeness, correctness, and consistency of CI data.

  • Validate discovered data and reconcile with manually maintained information.

• Exception Handling

  • Identify and manage CI data anomalies, duplicates, orphaned records, or missing attributes.

  • Work with data/CI owners to resolve exceptions and maintain data integrity.

  • Document and escalate recurring data issues or tooling limitations.

• Monitoring & Reporting

  • Use CMDB dashboards and reports to track data quality KPIs.

  • Monitor data feeds and integration jobs for failures or discrepancies.

  • Generate and distribute routine CMDB compliance or health reports.

• Collaboration & Support

  • Liaise with Service Owners, Infrastructure, and Application teams to validate CI relationships.

  • Support audits, change advisory boards (CAB), or service reviews with CMDB insights.

  • Assist in onboarding new CI classes, services, or environments into the CMDB.

• Process Adherence & Improvement

  • Follow defined Configuration Management policies and procedures.

  • Contribute to documentation updates (runbooks, SOPs, user guides).

  • Recommend improvements to CMDB processes and tools based on operational experience.

Required Skills and Experience

Min 2 yrs experience required.

• Experience working with CMDB tools (e.g., ServiceNow, BMC Remedy, etc.)

• Understanding of Configuration Management and ITIL processes.

• Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.

• Ability to interpret complex infrastructure/application relationships.

• Good communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

• Familiarity with automated discovery tools and integrations (preferred).
