Questions on choosing the right profession

Questions on choosing the right profession

Are you feeling unsure about your choice of profession? Our Fresenius "Azubi-Navi" (apprentice guide - German only) can provide you with some initial guidance. You can also attend one of our events for high school students. The Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit - BA) and the Vocational Guidance Center (Berufsinformationszentrum - BIZ) offer self-assessment tests, and you can find other tests on the internet.

Depending on the profession and your secondary school diploma, a vocational training program can last between 2 and 3.5 years. You will find additional information on the vocational training and cooperative university programs offered by Fresenius here.

Fresenius offers you an interesting and substantive vocational training program. You will have the opportunity to work in different departments and contribute your own ideas. Trainers and colleagues are happy to help when you have questions or problems.

Furthermore, vocational training at Fresenius is a good decision for your future. Fresenius is a highly successful, growing organization. And as a whole, the health services sector is not very susceptible to economic fluctuations. This means there is a good chance of being taken on permanently at Fresenius once you finish your vocational training.

Questions on the application process

Ideally you should apply approximately one year before the vocational training program starts, i.e. in the summer of the preceding year. Of course you can apply year round. However, if you wait too long you may find that all vocational training programs for the following year are full. Some locations have a specific application deadline, e.g. Schweinfurt in November of the preceding year.

No, that is not possible. You have to decide on one profession that best matches your interests and strengths. If you need help deciding, why not try our Fresenius Azubi-Navi (apprentice guide - German only).

In the cover letter, please tell us something about yourself and your interests as well as why you are applying to your chosen vocational training program. In addition, we require a curriculum vitae (CV) in tabular format (including information on relevant extracurricular activities) and a copy of your two most recent school report cards. Proofs and certificates of completed internships or courses should also be included. You will find additional information on the application process here (Verlinkung Bewerbungsseite). For online applications, .doc, .pdf, .jpg, and .gif file formats are acceptable.

If we think your application is a good match, you'll receive an invitation to the next assessment test at the site in question. Applicants who successfully complete this test will be invited for an individual interview. If your interview is successful, we will send you an offer - and look forward to welcoming you to Fresenius as an apprentice.

Applicants who successfully complete this test will be invited for an individual interview. If your interview is successful, we will send you an offer - and look forward to welcoming you to Fresenius as an apprentice.

The assessment is designed to test general knowledge and skills, for example your ability to concentrate and your organizational skills. Depending on the vocational training program, we may test your mathematical skills, your spatial perception, your job-specific knowledge and your written and verbal skills.

The interview is our chance to get to know you as a person. At this point, you have already proven your qualifications - now we want to see if you will fit into our team on an interpersonal level. That means you should be yourself - in a normal conversation in which we also hope to answer any questions you may have. Your questions are a sign of your interest in our company and the vocational training program, so you should take the time to learn more about our company before the interview. In our conversation, we also would like to learn more about your reasons for choosing this career path, your expectations for your chosen profession, and your personal interests and likes. "How do you picture a typical working day in your chosen profession?" "In your opinion, what makes this career path so interesting?" "What do you think a person has to do to be successful in this job?" - these are all potential questions that you should be able to answer during the interview. You should be able to reply naturally and honestly, not answer by rote. By the way, it is perfectly normal to be a bit nervous going into an interview. Just try to be yourself as much as possible.

Questions for parents and teachers

Your child/student should take every opportunity to get to know companies with potential vocational training programs in advance. Support them in attending company open-houses, vocational training fairs or "taster days" at universities. Internships and summer jobs are also great ways to get to know a company.

No, that is not possible. The student must select one vocational training program.

The best time to apply is approximately one year before the vocational training program starts, i.e. in the summer of the preceding year. Some locations have a specific application deadline, e.g. Schweinfurt in November of the preceding year.

You will find all necessary information about applications here.

You will find our current openings for high school students on our job listings page. If your child/student wants to apply for an opening, please click on the "apply now" button that is found in every job listing. The application is completed by following the subsequent steps. Additional pointers can be found under "Instructions for applying online" on every page of the online application form.

We will send your child/student an automatically generated e-mail confirming their application.

The test questions and exercises primarily focus on math and German abilities, but also on personal skills such as concentration, organization, and logical thought processes. Your child/student should also be prepared to answer questions relevant to their profession of choice.

The interview is the last step of the application process. At this point, your child/student has already proven their formal qualifications. Now we are aiming to find out if the applicant is a good match on an interpersonal level. Your child/student should present themselves and their interests in the course of a normal conversation. We would like to find out their precise reasons for selecting their career path, and their expectations for their chosen profession.

Before the interview, we recommend that your child/student take the time to learn about our company and run through the answers to some "classic" interview questions in their minds. "How do you picture a typical working day in your chosen profession?" "In your opinion, what makes this career path so interesting?" "What do you think a person has to do to be successful in this job?" - these are all potential questions that your child/student should be able to answer during the interview. However, their replies should be natural and honest, not recited by rote.

In addition to their answers, we will pay attention to applicants' behavior during the interview. A certain degree of nervousness is normal. What matters to us is that your child/student is polite and pleasant and demonstrates their interest. We specifically encourage applicants to ask questions during the interview.

In most cases your child/student does not have to bring anything, since we already will have received all documents electronically. However, there may be exceptions, e.g. in cases where updated documents must be submitted.

The initial days and weeks of the vocational training program will differ according to location. But there is always an orientation phase to help you get your bearings. During this phase, you will find out more about your program and the plant or facility where your program will be held - and get to know the other apprentices.

In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, apprentices have 30 days of vacation per year. If you start or end your contract in the middle of a calendar year, the number of vacation days is adjusted accordingly.
