Using IT to improve business processes

The Fresenius SAP Competence Center is broken down into different departments, each of which is responsible for a separate module within SAP. I work as a consultant for an area called Sales Processes & Applications, which deals with IT administration of the entire sales process, and the Fresenius software applications which tie into that.

When a new project kicks off, I capture the requirements of our internal customers and draft a concept aimed at optimizing existing customer management processes. Once the project has the go-ahead, it shifts into the implementation phase. This entails system configuration, testing and documentation, plus overarching project management tasks. The actual programming is taken care of by the development department at Fresenius Netcare.

At the moment, one of my projects is looking at ways to simplify the process of scanning documents using optical character recognition. As part of the outpatient nutritional care program, Fresenius Kabi Germany sends enteral nutrition products directly to patients’ homes. They confirm safe receipt of the products by signing a delivery note. Until now, confirmations have had to be entered manually into the SAP system. By automating the process electronically, we save administration time and money!

Before coming to Fresenius, I already worked for another DAX-listed company. My job at Fresenius involves a lot more variety, as I’m involved in several projects for different types of customers in the Fresenius group of companies, in Germany and other countries. The variety’s reflected in the collaboration with co-workers: I work closely with customers and other Fresenius Netcare areas. We get along well and sharing information works like clockwork.
