The Hirsch Pharmacy opens in Frankfurt am Main.
The pharmacy is acquired by the Fresenius family.
Start of the production of pharmaceuticals: The owner of the Hirsch Pharmacy , Dr. Eduard Fresenius, founds the pharmaceutical company Dr. E. Fresenius.
The company is growing, the manufacturing company is separated from the Hirsch Pharmacy in Frankfurt and moves to Bad Homburg.
The sudden death of Dr. Eduard Fresenius puts the company at risk.
After obtaining a degree in pharmaceutical studies, Else Kröner takes over responsibility for the pharmacy and company.
The infusion solutions product range is expanded.
Fresenius starts to sell dialysis machines from foreign companies.
Introduction of an amino acid solution based on the "potato-egg pattern."
Production starts at the newly acquired plant in St. Wendel, Saarland.
Production of the dialysis machine A 2008 also starts at the new location in Schweinfurt, Bavaria.
Fresenius KG is converted into a joint stock company.
Start of production of synthetic polysulfone fiber membranes for dialysis.
Founding of Fresenius Medical Care.

The company continues to expand: Fresenius Vamed and Fresenius Kabi are formed.
Fresenius operates its own hospitals in Germany for the first time with the acquisition of Wittgensteiner Kliniken AG. In 2005, the Helios Hospital Group is also acquired.
Over the following years, the Fresenius business segments expand their international presence through a series of successful acquisitions in various countries.
As an example of a whole package of new acquisitions, Fresenius Medical Care takes over the Renal Care Group in the USA and the Asia-Pacific region. Fresenius Kabi also expands its influence in North America with APP Pharmaceuticals. And Fresenius Helios provides an important increase in hospital beds in the Group through the integration of the Spanish hospital operator Quirónsalud.
In 2018, we celebrate our 15th record year in a row. Group turnover reaches over €33 billion. 2020 sees the 27th consecutive increase in dividends at the Annual General Meeting. The company now employs more than 300,000 people worldwide.
International or regional — anything is possible: As Fresenius is active in more than 100 countries worldwide, there are numerous opportunities for our employees when it comes to the location of their workplace. The holding company in Bad Homburg provides an international environment in a single location. Fresenius Medical Care, Fresenius Kabi and Fresenius Vamed, with their many locations around the globe, offer the best opportunities to gain experience abroad.
